Weekly Lawn Maintenance

Weekly Lawn Maintenance promotes a healthy lawn and is the first line of protection for your turf. A lawn that is mowed properly has a great defense against diseases. By keeping the grass stronger, there will also be fewer bare spots where weeds can take root. Lawn Maintenance includes cutting, trimming, edging, and blow off.

We follow the Rule Of Thirds when cutting grass.

Our goal is to cut only one-third off of the top of each blade of grass. By leaving two-thirds of the grass blades intact, we maximize surface area and leave it with a better ability to absorb light, nutrients and continue to grow healthy. The one-third that we cut is redistributed throughout the yard to act as a natural fertilizer.

Did you know that different grasses actually each have ideal heights to be mowed to?

What Makes For Quality Lawn Maintenance?

We take pride in doing a quality job every time we maintain your lawn.

There are three major components to a quality lawn maintenance experience:

  • Mow
  • Trim / Edge
  • Cleanup

If each of these parts is executed well, the result is a beautiful, healthy lawn.

In order to maintain our high standards, we send two or three-man teams to complete each property. While one team member does the mowing, the others trim and edge. Once the job is done, the yard waste is cleaned up resulting in a polished final product.

We take pride in our work and treat your yard like we would treat our own.

The higher quality your grass is, the better it will look! (If your grass isn’t up to snuff, we also offer Lawn Care services to help it get there.)

The Mow

The key to quality-focused lawn mowing is having a system. By following the same process every time, we can guarantee quality results.

Perimeter

We start by cutting around the perimeter twice. This leaves your lawn with a nice clean border. Just like working on a puzzle you start by laying down the perimeter then working inside from there.

There is another advantage of establishing the perimeter before beginning to mow. As the mower starts to cut the rows, at the end of each row there is an area where that mower has to turn around. By putting down the perimeter first, these “turn-around” areas aren’t visible in the finished product leading to a much cleaner striping appearance!

Next, coming off of that fresh border, we lay down professional striping.

Striping

As we cut the lawn itself we strategically plot the path of the mowers. By doing this, the lawn is striped which leaves a professional polished look to the finished product.

Have you ever wondered what actually causes the striped appearance on a lawn?

Striping is the reflection of light on the grass. As we mow, we are laying the grass down facing one uniform way in each row. The light on this row reflects differently than the light on the next row, which is mowed in an opposing direction. By alternating rows, we can create a beautiful striped pattern.

We offer custom striping services for our clients. We will even perform diamond cuts upon request. Remember though that striping is harder to notice on a “thin” lawn. A well-planned lawn care strategy will help fill your lawn in making your striping look beautiful.

If you have a particular striping preference, make sure to let us know so we can implement what matches your needs!

Avoidable Mowing Mistakes

Sometimes you might look at your neighbor’s lawn and wish that your lawn looked as fluffy and healthy as theirs. Typically the first thought is that cutting your grass lower would help.

Did you know that cutting your grass too low damages the root quality?

When your grass is cut too short, you are weakening the ability that your lawn has to grow and be healthy. The longer each individual blade of grass is, the more surface area there is to perform photosynthesis and encourage growth. That is a huge reason that the Rule Of Thirds is an important rule in professional lawn care.

When grass is weakened, bare spots can start to show up. This unhealthy turf creates an environment for weeds to thrive and grass to suffer.

While a low cut lawn may look nice for a few hours or even a day, you are actually making matters worse for your lawn in the long term. By weakening the root system you are creating weaknesses for unwanted weeds to invade! Soon you will be looking at all the dandelions, clovers, and bare spots and wondering where everything went wrong.

As experts, we can determine the ideal mow cut height for a healthy turf for your lawn to keep it within healthy ranges.

Our focus is on creating a lawn that is BETTER every time we come to service it and not just creating a “band-aid” solution that looks okay for a day or two.

We don’t cut your grass too low just so it looks pretty for a day. Every visit we are focused on helping your yard continuing to improve.

If you want to have a fuller greener lawn, we can also help establish a lawn care plan! Make sure you ask about our Lawn Care services.

Trimming / Edging

Mowing a lawn doesn’t just stop where the grass does. The key to a really pristine looking lawn isn’t just the center of the yard area, but also involves clean edges where the lawn meets up with hard surfaces such as concrete.

What does trimming or edging mean?

Edging is the nice line that is created at the “Shore-line” of the grass and concrete. All team members who are not mowing are trimming to establish a pristine edge.

When edging is done correctly, you will see 3 crisp parallel lines.

The 3 lines you should see are…

  • Hard Surface (Driveway, sidewalk, etc.)
  • Brown Dirt
  • Grass

What edging methods are there?

We offer two basic types of edging services…

  • Stick Edging (Hard Bar)
  • String Straight Edging

We rely on our on-site judgment to determine which service would be best for your lawn. The determining factor that we use is your overall lawn health.

Remember, the healthier your lawn is, the more we can do with it and the better it will look!

Stick Edging

In a healthy yard, we perform stick edging. Stick edging involves utilizing a specialty tool to get a clean set of lines.

A quality stick edging execution will leave a brown line of visible dirt, with a perfectly upright cliff of fluffy grass. This leads to a “flat-top” appearance where the grass meets the edge.

There is something incredibly satisfying about bringing order to a lawn through stick edging. We love working with beautiful lawns to give them a uniform edge!

String Straight Edging

If your lawn is a work in progress, string straight edging will be a better fit for your property.

If you haven’t been through a season or two of lawn care (or didn’t inherit some especially nice grass) then there is a good chance that stick edging just won’t show up well because of the lack of green mass which would prevent the satisfying flat-top appearance. (Remember, if this is important, we can help you get there).

For lawns that are still a work in progress, we perform string straight edging instead. Based on the job, we use either a special tool and or well-honed trimmer skills to create a nice line. We also blend this edge to help smooth out imperfections in the fullness of your grass.

Avoidable Edging Mistakes

While we always edge against concrete, we do not edge against the asphalt. The edging process would bust up the asphalt leaving chunks of asphalt and a broken mess. Where your lawn meets asphalt will not have a clean edge! This is to protect your property.

The Clean Up

It is important to keep freshly cut lawn clippings from tarnishing an otherwise clean lawn presence.

We use some of the biggest blowers on the market, the Echo 8010’s, to clean up after ourselves. It is very important for us to finish the job properly. We do not just blow the clippings out of your yard and into other public areas. The middle of the road or a neighbor’s curb aren’t the right places for lawn clippings!

Cleanup Done Right

Our policy is that your lawn’s clean appearance should be the only evidence that a mow took place when we are done.

Instead of blowing your yard waste out into your neighborhood to become someone else’s problem, we “hide” them in plain sight.

We blow your clippings back into your yard to remove all of the evidence and feather them out so they won’t pile up in clumps.

Maybe even more important than cleaning up there is actually a huge benefit to your lawn when you blow your old clippings in it! The old clippings decompose and act as a natural fertilizer to help it continue to grow in stronger and stronger.

We believe YOU should get the benefits of your grass clippings, not the middle of the road.
